Cindy Dick, Functional Sculpture
My work is an outlet for my lifelong passion for women’s sports by combining my love of woodworking and sculpture. Drawing from the rich histories held within vintage female trophy toppers, I reimagine these nostalgic objects through a contemporary lens. By integrating wood, light, and found materials, my sculptures celebrate the often-overlooked histories of female athletes, while honoring their legacy and giving new life to forgotten symbols of achievements. Working in wood allows me to shape dynamic, three-dimensional forms that are functional and feel both familiar and expressive. Through these sculptures, I explore themes of recognition, resilience, and remembrance—creating works that are both personal tributes and cultural reflections.
