Erik Ulfers
Erik Ulfers, Painting, Sculpture
Erik Ulfers has been creating provocative environments since childhood, when he carved a New York City skyline into his bed’s headboard with a ballpoint pen—a first attempt to make people wake up and pay attention. His parents were not amused.
He began his career as a scenographer at the Malmö State Theater in Sweden, designing acclaimed sets for dramas, musicals, ballets, and operas across Europe, and earning Prague’s Biennial Award for Scenography. Returning to the U.S., he co-founded Production Design Group (PDG) in 1990, where his broadcast design work won eleven Emmy Awards and four BDAs.
In 2006, Erik founded Clickspring Design, a midtown Manhattan design studio named after the mechanism in a clock that triggers the alarm—a fitting metaphor for its mission to spark engagement through bold, branded environments.
Alongside his commercial work, Erik has maintained a quieter practice as a painter and sculptor, exploring form, texture, and time through a more personal lens.
